Recreating a vintage design
Some file handles used to be made in cast iron. In todays video I'll be making my own version in silicon bronze. I started by creating a model in Fusion 360. Then I 3d printed the models and used them to create sand molds. I cast these in two pieces and then welded them together so that's why I choose to use silicon bronze (Everdur). Once I was finished welding them I spent many hours cleaning up the castings. I machined the clamps using my benchtop milling machine.

Making file guide vise jaws for perfect cuts
Просмотров 29 тыс.Месяц назад
In this video I'll make a set of file guides using HSS inserts. These will be different than other file guides as these are designed to rest on vise jaws and open with the vise jaws. File guides are commonly used for knife making but I'll mostly use mine for other things. Most of these parts were machined on my benchtop milling machine Precision Matthews PM30-MV Please consider supporting me on...

Making a Razor Utility Knife
Просмотров 121 тыс.7 месяцев назад
In this video I will be metal casting a bronze utility knife that uses razor blades. I started by coming up with a design and 3d modeling it in fusion 360. Then I 3d printed patterns to use to make a sand mold. Once cast in bronze I refined the casting with hand files. Then I drilled and tapped holes for stainless steel screws that hold the razor blade in place. Please consider supporting me on...
I made a solid bronze mask
Просмотров 115 тыс.8 месяцев назад
In this video I will make a really cool skull mask designed by artist Zane Rogers. I started by 3d printing it using a plastic called PLA. Next I coated the 3d print in a special ceramic slurry called Suspendaslurry. After that I placed the shell into a kiln and fired it at 1500° F to turn them into a ceramic. I filled the shell with bronze consisting of 92% copper and 8% tin. Once cool I broke...

Not sure why you didn't opt to use a core. Seems like all those voids in the handle would have easily supported one after you remove the pattern. Beautiful work, regardless.

Really cool! 👍 It’s about time science move away from copper winding coils in motors. Neither round nor flat wires. That necessitates use of magnets.

If you are still wondering, how they did the hollow inside: I think the answer is simple. They made it a hollow cone with a conical spur inside, so the mold was entirely reusable, and used a rotary press to round the tip of the handle. Brass is easy to deform with minimal force and the process is fast.

if you have a high res printer just put some koi fish accents on the print to give it some mould details . i mean i would also create a negative in silicone just for resin so you could make some ocean wave designs with those koi fish. IDK think making everything plane is useful but astetics on 3d printers don't cost money so why not.
